MEET KAYDEN WATKINS: she had a desire to go, found peace in her calling, and learning that joy should be shared.

How did the Lord call you to serve in the Dominican Republic?

I went on a mission trip to Puerto Rico the summer before, and I learned so much about myself, God, and JOY! So my church offered this opportunity to go to the Dominican Republic, I really wanted to go, and I didn’t know if it’s is where I needed to be. I prayed on it, and the more and more I prayed, the more and more peace I felt with the idea of going.

What did you learn through fundraising for your trip?

I learned that God will provide for you if it’s where you need to be. I didn’t know if I would be able to go, and I had enough saved up for the down payment for the trip and raised enough money with my shirts to go!

What’s one part of your trip you hope to never forget?

We went to this concert a church in the area hosted, and the joy in the baseball field we packed into was contagious. We didn’t understand the words, but it didn’t matter the message was clear. I don’t think I stopped smiling the whole time we were there!

What did you learn about yourself through this experience?

I learned that there is a joy that God has filled my heart with, and it’s not one that I need to keep hidden from the world.

What advice do you have for someone who wants to serve but is scared to step out of his or her comfort zone?

DO IT!! If you are feeling called to serve, then God will provide you with the tools and strength, you just have to pray, and act on what he calls you to! In the end it will be so worth it!
